Washington DC’s original private igloos

When the Whisky Garden at The Next Whisky Bar first opened in 2017, guests enjoyed sipping cocktails while warming themselves by the firepit tables in the Fall months. With Winter and colder temperatures arriving in Washington DC, there was a need for extra cozy, private spaces with heaters. The Watergate Hotel’s popular Winter Igloos were born!

The original interior theme for the igloos draws from the hygee aesthetic, which is a Danish concept of coziness and comfort, bringing a feeling of contentment or well-being. Soft, fuzzy seat covers, pillows, throws and other decor were chosen to give igloo guests an experience of being in a warm, unique, space in the company of friends. The design is updated throughout the season, bringing in holiday elements for Christmas, New Years, Valentine’s Day and even DC’s famous Cherry Blossom Season.

At a time when the city needs safe outdoor dining options, the igloos are ready serve. In the Winter of 2020 through Spring 2021 parties of up to six people can enjoy drinks and dining, in a protected space that opens for fresh air venting from the outside.

A new option for 2021 is Afternoon Tea. After many requests from fans of the hotel’s indoor afternoon tea service, it is now offered as a private igloo option on Sunday afternoons from 2PM. Family and friends can enjoy fine teas, sandwiches and sweets for four to six people.
